Sébastien Gauthier offers a unique expertise by combining his vast experience as a planetarium specialist and audiovisual designer, as an astronomy and science communicator and as a fulldome film producer for planetariums.

It enables him to offer innovative and efficient technical solutions in accordance with the project’s audiovisual and scenographic needs. By doing so, he is able to embody the full clients’ experience, he understands how the equipment will be used to amaze and educate the public with the splendor of nature and the universe. Since he is also a fulldome film director and producer, he will make sure that nothing will be left to chance, understanding himself how image, sound and immersion are important to the viewer’s experience.

PLANETARIUM SPECIALIST

As an audiovisual designer specialized in planetariums, Sebastien has over 25 years of experience. He recently completed a technical study for the Palais de la découverte, in Paris, one of the most prestigious planetariums in Europe. He collaborated in the conceptual projection design at the TELUS spark in Calgary, a unique 21 meters theater offering one of the most luminous fulldome projection in the world. Over the years, Sébastien has worked on a number of major museum projects for clients such as the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa, the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, the Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia, the Science Center of lowa, the Cité de l'énergie in Shawinigan, and the Montreal Pavilion in Century Park, Shanghai, to name just a few.

SCIENCE EDUCATOR

As a science educator, he has over 30 years’ experience. He is the author of countless conferences, public animations and exhibitions’ concepts. On the Quebec media scene, he is recognized as an astronomy and aerospace specialist. In 1996, he started an educational animation program at the Mont-Mégantic ASTROLab situated in the heart of the first international dark sky reserve in the world. Between 2013 and 2018, he was the programming director at the Planétarium Rio Tinto Alcan in Montreal. The ASTROLab and the Montreal’s planetarium are two of the top leading astronomy centers in Canada.

FILMMAKER

Since his first release in 2009, Sébastien produced and/or directed close to 20 films in fulldome and giant screen format including One Sky, Aurōrae and Exo (best films in Toulouse, Jena and Brno fulldome film festival). Over the years, he has developed an innovative and unique approach to immersive cinematography with an inspiring, educational and emotional narrative that blends powerful visuals, elegant scenarios and high-quality soundtracks.
